BMW E36 Corner Light Installation / Replacement DIY

Front turn signals on the BMW E36 3 series (1992-99) are easily the most commonly replaced or upgraded part of the car. Most people upgrade to the European style clear/white corners all around, and the fronts are the easiest and cheapest to explain. Since they are in the front corner, most fender benders or light accidents end up with the stock ones being broken, as they are plastic and don’t have much ‘give’ to them. This guide tells you how exactly to replace them in the easiest and safest way.

Removing and installing left or right front turn-indicator lights (complete)

1. Lever out retaining clip from top and pull turn-indicator light forwards.

2. Unlock and take off bulb holder. Caution! Only take hold of bulb on base or on glass of bulb with a clean cloth or packaging of bulb.

Installation note: If applicable, clean hollow throat (1) and affix a foam-rubber strip (approx. 5 mm wide). You don’t have to fix this in our corners, but your factory ones might be getting water or condensation in them.

When pushing the corner light back in, be sure that ‘stock’ on the corner light fits into the small hole in the fender, and lines up with the headlight clips, if you push it in too hard you are likely going to break the corner light plastic slider piece, be careful, be soft, and be gentle, most vendors don’t send replacements if you are the one who broke the part upon installation.  We found that some customers loosen up the headlights before sliding a new or old corner back in, OR if it is cold, heat up the plastic parts with a heat gun or blow dryer, this gives them more ‘room’ to bend.

I have a 1999 328ic convertible which came with new uninstalled corner replacements BMW # 82199403093 and …094, supposedly correct parts. But the parts are two pin and the car wiring is three pin. Help ? Can these be adapted somehow ?
